You guys, I’ve learned so much watching Ed Sheeran’s episode of Carpool Karaoke. Ed is like a deep, winding river full of knowledge, secrets, and surprises… and I had no idea.
The best part about James Corden’s iconic segment is how you truly do feel like it’s a bunch of friends driving around shooting the sh*t.
Listening to Ed talk about his personal life, his hatred of cell phones, and what it’s like to hang out with Justin Bieber is almost like listening to your best friend talk about that time they peed their pants on the subway.
Almost.

In the episode, James mentions how he hears that Ed, despite his mega fame, still loves to go to dingy dive bars. Ed corrects him saying, specifically, “What I enjoy most is bringing people who don’t drink in dive bars or skanky pubs, to said dive bars or skanky pubs.”
You know, like Justin Bieber for example.

Ed goes on,
I was in Tokyo the other day and Bieber was there…
Which, let’s all just take one quick moment to break THAT sentence down. Ed talks about being in Tokyo “the other day” as if it is his local grocery store and running into Justin Bieber is as if he ran into an old high school friend.
Mmmhmm. Us too.
He continues…
Just him [Justin], just him… no security or anything… and he came to this really, really filthy dive bar. Oh god. We ended up at this golf course, and he put a golf ball in his mouth and said, ‘Go on, hit it out!’ and I was pretty hammered, and then I was like ‘Focus, focus, focus. You can’t hit him, you can’t him him, you can’t hit him.’ And I had this driving wedge, and I was like ‘OK, OK, OK… ‘ and I went *WHACK* and I cracked him across the face.
YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT. Ed Sheeran hit Justin Bieber’s FACE with a golf club while the two were drunk and alone on a golf course in Tokyo.
UGH, kids have fun, don’t they?

Luckily, it sounds like the Biebs was pretty chill about it.
He was actually really cool about it, surprisingly. He was like, ‘Oh, bro! Ah!’ and then carried on.
Wait a minute. Is Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber’s friendship my new favorite friendship of all time?

The rest of the episode runs as you might expect, full of awesome harmonies between James and Ed, and many wonderful British accents.
To say this episode of Carpool Karaoke is my new favorite would be a radical understatement.
Ed, I’d tell you to call me, but you don’t have a phone or anything, so I’ll just be sitting in a dive bar in Tokyo… waiting for you.
